Hair Loss In Women

Types of hair loss in Women:

There are three types of hair losses in women:

1) Androgen tic Alopecia - This is inherited type and most common with both men and women.
2) Alopecia Areata- This type occurs when immune system attacks follicles
3) Traumatic Alopecia – This is due to braiding of the hair and chemicals used for hair treatment

Causes of hair loss in women

The cause of hair loss varies in women. Sometimes it is observed that by stopping any particular variety of hair treatment product , the problem gets solved. However, there are other causes of female hair losses:

• Malnutrition - if vitamins and minerals are lacking in the food for prolonged period may cause hair loss.
• Type of medication – Certain type of medication may cause hair loss. If one feels that the hair loss may be due to the medication, the doctor must be consulted immediately.
• Certain hair treatments with acids and heat can cause damage to the hair and follicles and stop hair growth.
• Infection on the scalp may temporarily cause hair loss.

Diagnosis of hair loss in women

Doctor may diagnose on the basis of medical history , regularly checking the hair patter, biopsy of the hair and blood test.

Hair loss treatment in women

Several treatments are available for hair loss in women like medication, surgical, head message.

Medication: Minoxidil, application of this tropical medicinal solution helps hair growth which is approved by the FDA, for both women and men.
Surgical procedure: If medication does not help , the case may be referred to a hair specialist for hair implant. The procedure may be performed in few sessions under local anesthesia application.
Head message: it is supposed to help stimulate hair follicles and hair growth after undergoing the treatment for few sessions but the procedure is in nascent stage and experimental in nature and therefore success is not fully assured.
